I’m Bloody Tired of the Classism Inherent in the Election

Is the darn thing over yet?

No?

Damn.

American politics are deeply, fundamentally classist.

Those who want to sound high-class (or are) adopt the rhetoric of the liberals. The working class go Republican.

You know what? Screw it, I don’t even want to pull up data on this. If you don’t believe me, go stick your head back in the sand and believe whatever you want. Tell yourself that you despise conservatives because they are Bad People and not because they are Low Class and not Good People Like You. And conservatives can tell themselves that they hate liberals because liberals are Bad People who Hate Americans.

In reality, of course, most people are good people (except for the one who work in HR, who should all be shot–NAHRALT, of course.)

When people hear that I write about “politics” they tend to assume that this means that I enjoy reading/debating about electoral politics. The truth is that I basically hate electoral politics.

Most of what passes for “political debate” is really just tribal signalling. Tribal signaling need not be wise, thoughtful, or factually correct; it need only signal “my tribe is better than your tribe.” I might be able to stand this kind of inanity if I felt comfortably a member of one of the big tribes and basically hated (or had no friends in) the other tribe. Of course, I have to have friends from across the economic system.

Working class and prole whites are convinced that elite whites hate them. Elite whites are convinced that prole whites hate just about everyone. And blacks, Muslims, etc., are probably pretty concerned about proles hating them, too. Family members are voting for the people they think are on their side against those bad people on the other side. Friends are voting for different people whom they think are on their side against those bad people on the other side.

Almost no one I’ve talked to is voting for a particular side because they’ve undertaken a careful study of the particular issues under discussion and decided that one of the candidates has the best policies. How many Democratic voters agree with Hillary’s stance on the Iraq War? How many Republicans agree with Trump’s opinion on the same?

The most vocal Trump supporter I know was talking about how we need to do more for immigrant children coming from Latin America just last year, and has told me that they don’t actually want to see anyone deported. They just hate liberals, and they are voting for Trump to stick it to the liberals.

No matter how I vote, someone gets fucked.

  1. I hate elections too. My politics are anti-politics. I want good government that is good in spite of my non-participation. (It’s not my own participation that I am concerned about, of course — I’m great! — just everyone else’s. But it amounts to the same thing. Can’t exclude them without also excluding me.)

  2. Theoretically, elections are about governance. It seems that with appropriate pressure, a limited electoral system will produce good outcomes (the Republic of Venice is the only example of this that I can conjure).

When people are starving, good governance is important (and high status comes from it), but when the poor are fat, holiness is the only thing that matters.

  3. “a careful study of the particular issues under discussion”

Seems to have been what led many of us to give up on electoral politics altogether.

  4. The split is a bit, or rather a lot, more complicated than what you’ve described because of the different ethnic and racial divisions also at work. Let’s look at one particularly glaring example; the liberal elites you speak of – who are drawn from upper-middle-class and upper-class white society – hate poor and middle-class WHITE people only. They will gladly savage Billy Bob and Dan the Boring Suburban Dad, but would never dare criticize blacks or Hispanics of any income level.

In fact, poor and middle-class whites are really the only group left in society that can really be mocked. They realize this, and they have also been listening as the liberal elites crow about their demographic replacement. “Hey Billy Bob, you’re just going to have to come to grips with losing any voice you had in the political process because this is a new America. Enjoy those gun rights while they last! Oh, and by the way, your factory job is getting shipped to China.” Hence, Donald J Motherfucking Trump.

Yes it is absolutely frustrating to explain tribal conflict becuase at some point you realize there is no amount of evidence that will persuade people. Everyone thinks they like people and that people think like them, except when the subject of the enemy thede comes up, then they are the bad people. I know grew up with liberals I know more than I care to count. They hate America. But they just don’t know it. Like everything to do with politics they have unconsciously adopted completely contradictory ideas as part of their thede. Many of these ideas are explicitly anti-American. I try to be charitable but it’s hard when people open their mouths. On the other hand, as you stated many liberals, I know support not so bad policies while still pulling the good people lever.

  6. Republican party has basically become the party for whites because it’s obvious to almost everyone now that the new democratic party is the party that is against them and all the ‘minorities’ flock to it.

So yes it is tribal, but that is because the country has basically been taken over at this point and it is a last gasp at trying to maintain some kind of control. Once politics get to that level in the first place your country/ethnicity are pretty much doomed to extinction. Why do you think Obama and Clinton work so hard to bring more people into the borders? It is soon to the point that the natives will simply have no chance for any control over their own destiny whatsoever because they face a coalition of block votes that will always vote against them. The country will soon be fully globalized and no one will every have a chance for any shred of power except for the corporate overlords who have orchestrated all this.
