Stephen Hawking was one of the 20th century’s greatest scientists, not only because of his prodigious intellect, but also because he succeeded in the face of one of the most debilitating diseases possible. ALS normally kills people in 3 to 4 years; Hawking survived for decades.
So far there is no word on what finally killed him, only the description that he “died peacefully in his home.”
Given the horrible hand fate dealt him, it would have been understandable for Hawking to turn bitter and resentful. Instead he remained positive, never accepting defeat.
Hawking wanted his most famous formula, the equation for describing the entropy of a black hole, engraved on his tombstone. In this he joins other greats, like Boltzmann and Archimedes.
Rest in peace, Professor Hawking. I hope your spirit is finally free. You will be missed down here on Earth.

I don’t like him, because of 3 things:
1. He was a leftist to boot and used his position to spread propaganda
2. Inside academia, he was known for ruining the lives of those who disagreed with him
3. He worked inside the principles of Relativity and Quantum mechanics, which will be proved to be completely wrong in the next decade or so. A Black Hole, even by Einstein standards, is an impossibility – no Black Holes were ever observed (and neither their surrounding phenomena), it only exists inside mathematical theories (which weren’t proved right either). Dark Matter some time ago was discarded in Academia because it was found that it didn’t exist as well.
So, if anything, he was just famous because of his illness and his legacy will be nil.

Did you realise that the woman in the picture is his nurse with whom he had an affair (both of them were married), left his wife for and then divorced because she used to torture and beat him up.
Kind of a weird parable of the tension between hypergamy and physical disgust.
