Carson answered incorrectly.
The correct answer is, “Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and render unto God what is God’s.”
Has Carson not read the Bible?

I wondered that too. I thought the Bible set precedent for a 10% tithe to God/the church. Which clearly the government is not. Good grief.

I can understand someone being unclear about tithing–it’s based on some obscure verses in Leviticus, and based on a quick Google search, it looks like it may be one of those Israel-specific laws that applied specifically to farmers.
But the “Render unto Caesar” verse is really famous.
Or at least it used to be.
